Managing Fire Safety in Buildings and Industry

The National Fire Code of Canada has requirements for Owners and those responsible for the operation of building to have a fire safety plan for their buildings.  This workshop will provide attendees with an understanding of the requirements.  The workshop will provide a forum for attendees to prepare the framework for fire safety plans for their buildings.

Attendees can bring information on their buildings so they will be able to apply this information directly into their fire safety plan.  Information to bring includes:

  • Height of building (#storeys)
  • Site plan showing streets, property, building location and size
  • Typical floor plans (reduced size)
  • Age of building
  • Fire alarm system
  • Water supply and fire hydrants
  • Sprinkler systems (if any)
  • Standpipe and fire hose system (if any)
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Other fire suppression systems

The work sessions will cover the requirements of an acceptable fire safety plan.  Additional components that are helpful for managing fire safety will be presented.

Who Should Attend

This workshop will be of interest and useful for anyone who is involved in building design, operation and renovations.  This would include building owners, managers, fire prevention officers, engineers and architects.
