Moosehead Breweries Limited - Saint John, New Brunswick
The St. John facility of Moosehead Breweries Limited is a modern facility that includes the brewing of beer, bottling and canning of the product, packaging for distribution and administration and marketing offices. R.J. Bartlett Engineering Ltd. was involved in a project that expanded the facility to a size where fuel loading and occupancy classification became a critical factor in construction. Our role was to determine a practical method for applying the applicable building and fire codes. Services included:

St. Anne Nackawic Pulp Company Limited produces a hardwood based bleached pulp. R.J. Bartlett Engineering Ltd. was retained to design a modern fire detection and alarm system respecting the various unique operations within the large mill. Services included:

  • Site evaluation.
  • Preparation of design documents for fire detection and alarm systems.

The chemical based process in the mill was a main factor in determining the method for distributing the new highly electronic computer based fire detection and alarm system. Factors such as corrosion of electronic equipment, effective strobe signals for areas with high ambient noise and large power demands on a widely distributed signal system were factors of consideration.

NAV Canada, Vancouver Air Control Centre
R.J. Bartlett Engineering Ltd. assisted NAV Canada, the organization responsible for controlling air traffic over all of Canada and areas north, south, east and west. The scope consisted of replacing conventional fire detection and Halon 1301 systems with a very early smoke detection system, mechanically friendly special fire suppression systems and regular fire sprinkler systems.

The focus for this essential service building was occupant safety, protection of the elaborate electronic equipment and building protection.
